What was the first superhero action figure?

In a world of superheroes, there’s one that pioneered many aspects of pop culture as we know it. Superman was the first superhero action figure to appear in multiple titles across radio and television and was the first to be made into a superhero action figure.

The first Superman comic premiered in 1938 and was an immediate success! By 1940, Superman was featured on a radio program called “Superman’s Christmas Adventure”, after which the toy production company ‘Ideal Toys’ began producing the first Superman superhero action figure to gift kids and kids at heart on Christmas. While it wasn’t called an ‘action figure’ (that term wasn’t around yet), it built the foundation for today’s hero figurines.
